Call for Provincial Health Research Privacy Committee Members

The Research Improvements Through Harmonization in Manitoba (RITHIM) team is seeking dedicated individuals to join our Provincial Health Research Privacy Committee.
About the Role
As a PHRPC member, you will play a critical role in ensuring that health research projects adhere to the highest privacy standards. You will assess applications to determine whether personal health information is handled responsibly and in compliance with Manitoba’s privacy law - The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA).

The responsibilities of PHRPC are to determine:

whether the importance of a research project outweighs any intrusion into privacy;

that the research cannot be done without using identifiable personal health information;
-
that it is impossible or impractical to obtain consent from the people the personal health information is about;
-
that adequate safeguards are in place to protect the confidentiality of the information; and
-
that the information is the minimum amount necessary to accomplish the purpose of the research project.

Time Commitment:
-
Approximately 4 hours per month.

Appointments are for a 3-year renewable term, which may be renewed for one additional term for a maximum of six (6) years.
